Getting Started with Mini vMac
Mini vMac for Android allows you to emulate classic Macintosh computers. Follow these steps to get up and running:
Step 1: Obtain a ROM File
You need a valid ROM file for the Macintosh model you wish to emulate. For example:
- Macintosh Plus:
vMac.ROM
(128KB) - Macintosh II:
MacII.ROM
(256KB)
You can extract the ROM from an actual Macintosh using a tool like CopyRoms. Without a legally obtained ROM file, the emulator will not work.
Step 2: Obtain a Bootable Disk Image
To run an operating system, you need a bootable disk image. You can download System 6.0.8 from Apple:
Extract the disk image using the ua608d tool or other available methods.
Step 3: Store and Load Files in Mini vMac
Once you have the ROM and disk images:
- Store them in an accessible location on your Android device.
- Launch Mini vMac.
- When prompted, select the ROM file.
- Next, select the bootable disk image.
- The emulated Macintosh should start up, allowing you to use the classic Finder interface.
Shutting Down
To properly exit Mini vMac:
- Choose Shut Down from the Special menu inside the emulated system.
- Then, close the Mini vMac application.
